Hi guys am new here and was hoping to use some of your knowledge to help me build a new gaming pc. Am currently running a ancient amd 64 3000+ with 1.25gb and a x1650 512mb, so figured it was time for an upgrade. I was initially looking at a couple of overclockers pre-built systems, namely the Titan Volcano :

but then the Titan Vulcan caught my eye with its low price:

I was initially going to spend about £1200 but looking at the vulcan could anyone spec me a decent build for around £800. I was looking at having the Geforce 295, but this may be out of my price range now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Another thing to note is that i would like it to be fairly future proof in terms of CPU socket choice, i dont mind upgrading in the future, aslong as i dont have to fork out for the whole lot, motherboard included :)

i'd look at most of the components in the vulcan setup, maybe change the gfx card.

what size monitor/res do you game at ?

could always go the ddr2 route with a mobo like the Asus M3A78 Pro AMD 780G and combine it with the AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720 Black Edition.

At the minute I'm using a 17" acer monitor at 1280x1024, although will upgrade eventually to a 22" widescreen, hopefully full HD, but tbh am not bothered about gaming past 1280x1024, looks good enough for me.
I tried speccing to the vulcan components but couldnt match the price of the complete system, plus ofcourse the vulcan comes overclocked out the box, i have no experience personally of overclocking and would trust the experts here to do it for me. Suppose i could always give them a ring and ask how much it would be with the 4870x2

This is what i have come up with so far: which is slightly over budget but not by a long shot, anyone care to suggest improvements?

Agreed. an X2 would be pointless at that res, go for a 4870, even the 4850 would max any game. Unless you plan on going for 24"+ monitor I wouldn't bother with a GPU that powerful.

You could also drop the mobo down to an AM2+ socket and use DDR2 ram, that would bring the price down.

So in the end if am just going for a standard 4870, is worth me just going with the Titan Vulcan, which has the 1024mb version in it anyway, comes overclocked for only £699, with ddr3 and am3 socket for futureproofness

cool thats why i was thinking, just a matter of waiting till pay day, for the deposit as am planning to use the 6 months finance option, thanks for all the advice guys
