Hey, I'm planning to buy a new computer, and would like some help, since I don't have much knowledge regarding computers.

My budget is about 1400$, and the computer would be used for gaming mainly.

This is a proposal from a friend:

Motherboard: Asus P7P55D-E PRO
Memory: Corsair 4GB (2x2048MB) 1600MHz XMS3
CPU: Intel Core i5 760, 2.8GHz
Gfx: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 460 1GB OC
Case: Antec Nine Hundred II
PSU: Corsair HX 650W 80+

This would go for about ~1250$ where I live (Sweden).

Give tips!

It's worth noting that Sandy Bridge (new set of Intel processors) and ATI's 6xxx series (new set of graphics cards) are both due out over the next few months, so if you can wait, you might get better value for money.

Still though, you have a great system there that will power through pretty much any game that's out at the minute. As Jony says, switching the GTX 460 for a 470 will give you extra power for your games, and should (I think) stay within your $1400 budget.

oh one more thing, you might want to consider cpu cooler and overclock that cpu :D
and iirc the first series of SB due out in Q1 2011 will be the mainstream which means that the i7 will still be the fastest untill the enthusiast SB comes out later next year
not sure if this helped :p
