Good evening, I hope you're all well.

This is my first post here, I am asking for advice and recommendations, I am very grateful for all your input as my technical knowledge is nonexistent.

I'm looking to replace my old gaming laptop, which I've had for near on 10 years.

I will mainly be playing newest Football Manager, Heart Of Iron 4 and Cities Skylines.

As i say, I don't know much about what's needed, but I think I'm right in saying those games are quite heavy on the CPU?

Ideally I'd like this laptop to last me sometime, and I dont know what the prices are like. However I would like to pay no more than £1200 as a ballpark figure.

As you can tell, I'm UK based and can order from most highstreet shops, Curry's, Argos or online shops too.

Thank you and I look forward to learning

It sounds like the games you are playing are not very demanding and you probably don't need to spend anywhere near £1200.

That being said, for £1200, you'd probably be looking at a 12th gen Intel processor and a 3060, which will be solidly capable. Beyond that is worth thinking about what size screen you want (since that will set the form factor of the laptop) I tend to think the bigger the better, but it really depends how mobile you need it to be. It's also worth thinking about whether you want a high refresh rate display (this will help a lot in competitive shooters - which you don't seem to play).

It's against the rules for people to recommend ocuk competitors (fair enough). Ocuk do seem to have a lot of gaming laptops that have been reduced in to your price bracket.

Here is the OCUK range from £900 to £1200. If you comment which you like the look of, I'm sure people that know about game spec requirements will tell you if it suits your needs:

Hello all

Apologies, I didn't realise about not being able to get recommendations from other suppliers. I thought this was a general help forum.

Thank you for your replies, although these games I'm playing are quite demanding on the CPU and take a long time to run/run slowly If specs aren't enough or laptop is old like I have now

I'm not a gamer so I don't know about graphic card specs and that, but I would say if you bought any of the gaming laptops from the Overclockers range in your price bracket, it's going to be like night and day compared to your 10 yr old laptop.

I’d wait until the new Nvidia RTX 4000 mobile chips for laptops release next month . Even if you don’t buy one of them it’ll push down prices of current generation laptops IMO.

Had been looking myself, and found a 17.3" Asus Tuf, i7-12700H with a RTX 3070 just below £1200.
The 15.4 version was around £150 less.
Both had a good reviews (2022 versions).
