Hi I'm thinking a new system cause the current one aint pulling it's weight.
So my two choices are 9800gx2 or gtx280 in (SLI) which is going to be the smoothest when playing games maxed out 1650x1050 in vista?

Any feedback would be great :-)

Many Thanks.

Now I've got a crossfire solution it definatly helps at higher res, I game @ 2048 x 1536. I'm held back by cpu. I'd say Single card and the fastest cpu you can budget for that res. Then again what games do you play? How often do you upgrade? Single card now add another later?

SLi or Crossfire will definately give a boost at that resolution of a 22" widescreen.

Problem with monitors bigger than 22 or 24" is that the FPS will still be sluggish at their native res, then turning down the res will make the game look horrid.

Some games a GTX 280 beats 4870 in crossfire but i guess the 4870 wins in highest resolutions, much higher than 1680 x 1050 but as i said this is where the games will start getting in the region of 40fps and will get sluggish. A single 280 will probably perform very well, though its hard to decide whether to go for the 4870's or single GTX 280 imo.

If you want the best get a 4870x2 as its the fastest card on the market. No real need for a gtx280 as its around £70 to expensive as with 8xaa the 4870 is just as fast in the majority of games i have seen tested. This round goes to ati they have the fastest card in nearly every range tested.

Have to agree the 4870X2 is the best choice . :)
