Hello everyone i have just sold my computer and bought a second hand xbox, after playing the xbox for a while i dont think it is that great. I was going to buy a new pc anyway but i thought i would try an xbox to see if they are any good. So i am now looking to build a new gaming pc but i would like some help.

I already have a monitor but everything else i will need :) i have a budget of about £500 for the core bits but if this can include a decent mouse and keyboard then its good :).

I would like a computer to play bf3 at a nice framerate, lots of hdd space with a fast hdd. All of my computers in the past have been capped by the hard drive. I know that there is only so far you can go and im not sure i can afford an ssd but a fast hdd would be nice. I have been told that intel is the way to go at the moment and i havent read much into amd's new chips.

Thanks in advance for the help :)

A quad core CPU, unlike a i3 2100 etc.

A faster Harddrive than 5400rpm "Green" drive.

And a GTX560 is faster than any GTX460

if you read the OP you'll see he wants lots of space. 500GB certainly isnt that. prehaps i should have gone for one of the 1TB drives in my spec though

i'd agree with you if you had the Ti version, but the twin frozr 460 could keep up with the standard 560 when overclocked as it can reach 900Mhz with ease, and 1000Mhz if your lucky

Then overclock the GTX560 too, it should reach higher speeds being based on a more efficient manufacture process:D

GTX560>GTX460

will it reach the twin frozr 460 speeds when they are both overclocked though?
and will the small difference in clock speeds be worth the price difference?

He also said "fast too":D
hence my ninja edit saying the 1TB drive might be more sensible

*edit*
i think the 460 vs 560 argument can be solved if you tell us when your going to be ordering, because what i thought was a this week only price is a today only price :(

Why not? and did the OP say anything about overcloking? :D

The simple fact is the GTX560 is faster out of the box, and if you want to talk about overclocking then im sure the custom cooler and smaller more power efficient die of the GF114 GPU will do a good job.

Hey guys thanks for the reply's :)

I was going to ask is an i3 enough power? i don't mind upping the budget to get a good cpu and gpu. I had a 6870 in my last build and i was very impressed was a great card are the other cards (GTX560/GTX460) as good or better?

Thanks again

The i5 2300 I specced is a quad cpu CPU and is much better than a i3 2100.

As can be seen here - http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu/display/core-i3-2120-2100_5.html#sect0

A GTX460 is slower than both a ATI 6870 and a GTX560.

As can be seen here - http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Palit/GeForce_GTX_560_2_GB/27.html - which shows a range of resolutions and cards.

The XFX 6870 suggested by jennidc is overclocked and includes free games!!!

since you are probably not going to order tonight go for the 560 as it is just as fast as an overclocked twin frozr 460 when overclocked itself (give or take a few Mhz) and will end up being the same price.

if it was a this week only offer as i originally thought i'd say go the other way to save a tenner, but its not :(

*edit*
your link just proves my point. the GTX 460 as standard has 83% of the clock speed of the 560, and is 85% behind in all tests, give or take 1%. if they were put at the same clock speed they would perform exactly the same, and the twin frozr 460 and OcUK 560 can get to the same clock speeds.

since overclocking graphics cards is about as easy as tying your shoelaces i figured a £10 saving would be preferable to a slider in a different position, however, if the OP isnt ordering today then the money saving goes out the window and the 560 is the obvious choice

Ahh i see wow the i5 seems to have some nice stats on that website. Thanks for the advice about the graphics cards and no i wont be ordering today it's probably not going to be untill the end of the month but i wanted to get the idea of what im going to be getting into my head :)

Ahh i forgot i don't need an OS :/ sorry about that haha

So i have another £70 to stick somewhere? Maybe more RAM?

So the budget is actually £570ish?

Slow? hmmm.

The WD Black/ Samsung F3 and Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 are the three fast mechanical drives.

mechanical HDD's are slow and noisy in general. the seagate barracuda might be slightly better, but im really not sure

*edit*
you sure its not the F1 you had, because i know thats a lot slower than the F3

Ahh i see :/ thanks anyway i will decide on what one to get closer too the time unless one of them shines out and you guys can recommend to top the others?
