Hey guys,

So my laptop has pretty much died, and I am in need of a new computer for work, but also to game on. I only have about £450 to spend on it, but I figured I can always put some money towards it a bit later down the line so instead of going for an i3 I am considering an i5 and using the new ivy bridge hd 4000 for a while and then going dedicated later when I have some more money.

The thing is I really can't wait long at all to get a new computer because of the need to use it for work, so that is why I would run on integrated for a while.

So this is the spec I am considering, based on the PCgamer rig:

CPU
Intel Core i5 3570K
£167.99

Motherboard
Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H
£80.76

RAM
Crucial Ballistix Sport 2x4
£39.95

Hard drive
1TB Western Digital Caviar Green
£69.99

DVD drive
Samsung SH-222AB
£9.95

Case
Bitfenix Merc
£31.99

Power supply
OCZ ZS Series 650W
£59.99

That comes out at £460.62

I would also need an OS, but I am a university student so I guess I could get it cheap? Anyone know any sites that provide student licenses?

I have a monitor (Dell u2312hm) keyboard and mouse.

So QUESTIONS

1) Is this power unit modular? If not, are there any similarly priced good quality modular ones?

2) Is this motherboard right for me? I really don't understand motherboards at all, but I know that I will never want to SLI my eventual GPU.

3) Can you see any issues here? Any way to do it cheaper?

Thanks!

Is that PSU good? I read a lot of people telling newbies the importance of a good PSU...

Also, is 500W enough for an eventual 7850/gtx 560ti/660?

The RAM doesn't seem to have come out yet, is there a reason you chose thi one?

Will that bitfenix alpha case be big enough to fit everything in?

Thanks for the help!

Do you not know anyone with an old version of vista or anything? You just need to install vista then use the disk from uni to install over it. So long as the vista is activated.

Ummm, but how can I use someone elses Vista if they are using it? Nobody I know has anything to do with computers other than having a laptop so no they don't have old copies of Vista.

If I was to order Idleman's setup and then get the windows (upgrade?) that i linked to for £72, would I be able to set up a computer and use it? As in, can I just install a fresh windows 7 onto a newly built computer using that windows product?
