Hi guys,

I've been a lurker of these forums for many years but now I'm looking to get back in to gaming on a PC it makes sense to talk to more knowledgeable people than myself when it comes to current Desktop hardware!

I was a PC gamer for many years pretty much until 2007 when I picked up a 360 and just never really bothered upgrading my desktop, so for the past 5 years or so the only PC I've had is my Linux based work laptop (not exactly well suited to gaming for obvious reasons!).

For the last couple of years I've found myself wanting to play more and more PC exclusives (I love me some Western RPGs and the PC has always been spoiled in that area compared to the consoles) so with that plus the rather underwhelming next gen console announcements I've decided it's time to build another gaming PC!

I've spent the last couple of weeks researching and getting specs in my head but my budget just seems to be getting bigger and bigger the more I research so I thought I'd see what other people can come up with!

My budget is £700 for the base box (I don't mind going over by a bit), I also need a wireless keyboard and mouse but that can go on top of the £700ish for the base machine and I wont be needing a monitor as it's going to be hooked up to my TV.

A fair bit over budget but there a few things you can cut back on:

  • You can save money if you are sure you don't want to ever overclock the CPU
  • The SSD can be dropped though they are really good for use as Boot drives

What do you think?

That's great, much appreciated! Doomed your spec is a little out of my budget really I could probably stretch to it but it's getting dangerously close to a grand, plus I'd like a decent headset fairly soon after buying the box.

Tamzzy's Intel spec looks really good, it's got a lot of bits I've already been looking at but with a couple of neat savings on different components.

I've already decided on the drive, I've read that the WD Blue WD10EZEX 1TB drive is very quick due to the 1TB platter? You can pick them up for about £50.
