Hello all

I'm looking to buy a gaming pc and am somewhat overwhelmed by the choices online. My gaming demands are not huge, mainly wow with a view to the new Star Wars mmo and guild wars 2 when it arrives. So I'm guessing I don't need the most powerful machine in the world.

Dell seem to have a really powerful and good value XPS 8300 but the standard spec Alienware Aurora R3 sounds nice at about £900.00. Basically my limit will be about £1000.00. Any ideas please?

Cheers all.

Are you capable of building a PC yourself? you will save money and get a better system if you DIY it.

Have you looked at the range of OCUK pre-built systems?

For this £1000 budget what do you need (tower unit/monitor/operating system/keyboard+mouse etc)

if you are willing to build it yourself you can get quite a good spec for that money, tho that depends on if you just want the tower(I.e CPU, mb, ram etc) or if you need monitor and peripherals as well.

edit: yet again don't know why I even bother stulid :(

no that's fine stulid I'll leave him in your capable hands, I'm sure you'll go through the spec list I suggest and rip it to shreds anyway so may as well let you do the specing from the off :)

Hey fellas

I'm just after the tower (oh and os), already have a nice monitor and what not. As for building it I don;t really have a clue. I put a new graphics card in my old PC and thats about as far as I went on the tech front. I'm definately more of a user of pc's than a builder I think.

I have to be honest I don't think I have the time or patience for that, thank you for providing me with those vids though.
I was just looking at the pre built systems on ocuk and they seem very good value for money. Is ocuk a pretty good place for prebuilt? Your money seems to stretch a good deal further than it would with alienware. Anywhere else worth looking?

do you have an old pc from which you can salvage anything? Particularly sata hard disks, due to the floods in thiland the prices have gone through the roof.
