Hi guys my current spec is just over 3 years old now and coming to the point where I fancy an update

OCZ-VERTEX2 60GB SSD with boot drive
2 Samsung 1TB hard drives raided think 1035j or close
Intel Quad core Q6600
MSI P35 Neo-F
Sapphire Radeon 6950 GDDR5 2GB
650W Antec neo power
Optiarc DVD RW AD-7200S
Antec 900 case

Above is my current spec will also be looking for a new case that could be a bit more silent.

Looking to be able to play games like BF3 and FM.

I have a budget of £400-£500

Would be grateful for any tips.

not to worried about the gfx I know can always come back to that at a later stage. I guess the point about the 7850 is I could sell my 6950 to go towards the new gfx.

One thing I will say i do think I may need a new case its a bit loud the antec 900.

Also would it really be worth it to keep the raid I have you would be better to use SRA?

I think it does ok some on another site said i might see better results once the other stuff has been upgraded. I play at 1920x1080/1200 for some reason get some games that dont like 1080.

The raid is only between the 1tb drives in raid 1, but plan on using dropbox more so no really worry about losing things on that front.

I also need to think about a new optical drive as the current one is failing.

and the last one for now How much do you think I could get for my stuff above?

Right guys thought I would up this thread again.

Would you guys still recommend the above items

Will be purchasing a Corsair 550d case, the rest is all up in the air i guess

That is correct The ones above are just a bit too much at this time doesnt help that I dont know how much I would get for my current stuff.

In regards to the case I picked the Corsair 550d due to all the silencing form.

Would I also be right in thinking that I would need a new Win7 disk? The one on this pc was oem

Would it not be an idea to have that on a motherboard so its on if i do decide to go down that route at a later stage,

Would I see any benefit in waiting a few days for Ivybridge to come out?

I think if i was really going for cost I would have gone with a lot cheaper case. I am tempted by the gfx card due to the 10% voucher and being able to sell parts on.

Would really like to know about windows 7 guess i could always give it a go and order a new copy if needs be.

in regards to the gfx if I was to go down the route of improvement, what would i be looking at considering I have the 6950 2gb card now.

Hi again,

sorry having re-read the OP I realise you wanted a new case too? This one has a fan controller built in :)

Done a little bit of changing going to wait for Ivy to come out over the weekend and get the 3570k

But added these parts

All i need now is a internal card reader then think I am good to go unless you guys can spot a floor with what I have.

In regards to the gfx will leave that for time being and look at upgrade at a later stage.

Right put all the parts together from above, Not done anything in the bios just built it all up and got it running.

What should I be doing to get good performance part from the obvious oc

Right I have had the machine up and running for a week now. Its seems I have a problem where the usb ports will not work unless I restart and the same happens with the sound. I could fire the pc up and get no sound. to resolve I either have to unplug usb/sound cable or restart the system.

Can any one help?

Ok the sound problem seems to have calmed down which is good.

Anyway today is first time I have had to sit down

What sort of software should I be looking to install to make this even better.

Tried to install IRST but got a message saying my computer is not compatible.

Any tips would be great guys.

The IRST was rapid start. which i got setup via EZsetup but the one you mentioned is blacked out. Having a look in the manual would suggest that the os needs to be on the Hard drive rather than the SSD.

for the overclock I have just used ET6 for a 4ghz clock
