New Gaming PC - £1400 - £1800 buget

Hey guys,

Been a while since i had a new gaming rig (My last custom build was also from Overclockers <3)

I have around £1500 to spend and that's to cover:

Case:
CPU:
CPU Cooler (Include any Fan changes you would make here):
PSU (Would be cool for a 1000w so that its future proof in case i upgrade but not essential):
Motherboard:
Ram:
1x SSD for Windows/Games (120gig+):
1 x HDD for Storage (1TB):
GFX:
Soundcard (5.1):
Optical drive (Nothing Fancy here no Blu ray or anything needed):
Fan upgrades for Maximum cooling and silence:

Pretty much everything bar Monitors, Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers and Headset although if someone managed to squeeze some logitech 5.1 speakers in the build somewhere I would not be mad but its not essential as i have some half decent speakers atm.

I don't want to go AMD at all as I'm an Nvidea/Intel man. The rig is mainly for gaming (not high end games but i want it to be future proof) and again SLi is nice but not imperative.

I'm not looking into water cooling although an all in one water CPU cooler wouldn't be out of the question.

Hope to get a few different peoples opinions.

Cheers.

Carl

Just as a rough example i put some stuff together.

Bare in mind i don't know everything about PC's etc

Maybe i only need 1 GFX and that 1 GFX could be better quality etc etc.

Not included any case fan upgrades that would be needed also as not sure what fans etc you can get into the case or what fans would be needed, whether a fan controller would be needed.

As I'm really not confident in building my own PC and the fact that i cant quite get what I'm after from the pre built systems that are on the website do people know if overclockers will build me a system to my exact specs?

Cheers

Yeah after spending more time looking and coming to a few compromises i think i found a PC i would be happy with.

Just to re open this thread. Waited for the Z97 boards to come out and i think i am finally gonna bite the bullet and buy parts and have decided to give building it myself a go!

Now there is no motherboard here, which brings me to my next question...I have never been that interested in overclocking etc but obviously if your able to overclock your CPU it provides performance benefits, Now i have watched a Video of the new auto overclocking software you get on the mainstream Z97 boards (5 way optimization) which for my needs would be excellent..problem is the ghastly colour scheme so I am torn between either

or

Would love the hero but afaik it doesn't have the 5 way optimization software that the mainstream board has.

Just wanted peoples opinions/thoughts on my dilemma and what they would do in my situation.

I know case is personal preference but this would be a beauty if going with black/red theme:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Corsair Graphite 760T Windowed Full Tower Gaming Case - Black (CC-9011044-WW) £144.95

I did look at the 760T and while it is a really nice case, Due to the fact that I'm not going to be watercooling means that the case will look far too big for the components in my opinion.

As for motherboard choice, the Hero does appear to have the 5 Way Optimization as well, included in the AI Suite 3:

AI Suite 3
One-stop control panel with latest 5-way Optimization function

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/MAXIMUS_VII_HERO/
It's not advertised as much as it is on the Deluxe, perhaps because of all the ROG features they had to cover? Don't know. Maybe best to get a cast-iron guarantee from OcUK or Asus that the 5 Way does come with the Hero. But now you have some hope that it might.

Thanks for the info, That's awesome to know!

Oh, one more thing - the new "K" Haswells (Devil's Canyon) will be here by 1st June. Would be a pity not to wait, as it's such a nice build and they'll be more overclockable (in theory, as they will run cooler) than last years Haswells.

http://www.guru3d.com/news_story/dev...rbo_clock.html

Yeah i see what you mean but the problem is I have been delaying this build for over a month already (and my current PC is on the verge of dying). The way the computer market is at the moment something new is always "A few weeks away" so if you wait for everything you would never get a build complete in my view and as I'm not massively into overclocking the extra overclock I would get from the new chip probably wouldn't even bother me that much...but then on the other side of the coin if i am gonna be spending this kind of cash on a build maybe i should wait...omg decisions decisions!.

Maybe I'm being impatient..

Appreciate your opinions/advice though

If you are not that bothered about overclocking then just get a current cpu and a Z97 board.

Yeah think that's what I'm gonna do.

You qualify for Free postage once you hit 100 posts

Haha i know! need to find something to write about though!

The EVGA psu is essentially the same as the Superflower Leadex, as Superflower is the OEM. You get a far better warranty with the EVGA psu though (10 years)

Not really had that much experience of EVGA psu's to be honest but I have watched a few reviews of it since you recommended it and it seems rather good.

The Asus 780ti matches the Red/Black theme.

Yeah may end up getting this card although the ichill is sooooo tempting plus i think the glowing led on it is white so wouldn't look that out of place.

If you are only gaming, then 8GB ram is plenty.

Yeah think i will go for only 8gb.

The H105 has a thicker Radiator, so in theory it should perform a little better than the H100i. I would probably change the stock fans for the SP120's as well.

In theory yeah will have to check out a few reviews of it then and was already planning on changing the stock fans on it.

I think i may bite the bullet and get the iChill...yeah it may not go with my colour scheme if the led light on it is blue (i expect it to be blue due to the 'chill' in the name connection) but it seems to be one of the best 780ti around according to peoples opinions etc.

Edit: Wohoo 100 posts...free shipping!

I think the Asus Matrix and EVGA Dual Classified might disagree To be honest any 780ti will do the same job if you are not overclocking it.

Yeah the Asus matrix is a monster but like the stock from overclockers is not expected for like 1-3 weeks or something along them lines, Would love the EVGA card but i presume it has a green Geforce led on the card which would look horrible in the build.
