New gaming PC

Hi all, I'm looking to buy/build a new gaming PC as my laptop that I currently use for gaming can no longer hack it with newer games at reasonable settings.

I am willing to spend up to £2500 including in that a screen and keyboard. I have an OS and mouse that I can use.

The computer will be in the spare room so ideally I would like the screen to be double up as a TV if we have guest over, though I've been keeping an eye on the Acer Predator which is probably not the best option in this respect.

I don't mind building the computer though I'd probably not be confident installing a water cooled system.

Also, I don't great a brilliant wifi signal in my house so need a decent network adaptor.

The only other question I have is whether I should wait for the new graphics cards to come out. I've got plenty of older games to tide me over if the best option is to wait a few months.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi and welcome.

What OS is it?

So if I do a spec with 27" screen or maybe a 34" 21:9 superwide screen would that suffice?

Do you want a small or large PC?

There are new AMD cards coming June time so I guess its upto you if you want to wait.

Thanks for quick replies.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium at the moment.

Was thinking 27" for the screen size and ideally a relatively small case. For budget purposes was thinking single GPU right now with the option of going SLI in the future so the case would need to fit around that requirement.

Will also check out the Powerline adaptors.

Thanks Stulid, that looks very nice and at that price I'd probably go for a second card straight away. Might also go for a 500gb SSD.

Do you know if the ETA for the monitor is relatively fixed or is there a chance of slippage?

And do offers finish on Sundays? Just thinking about those cards being £40 off this week.

Cheers both. Will play about with it tomorrow and hopefully put an order in then. Been years since I had a decent desktop rather than gaming on a laptop so will be a nice change.

Just gotta source a decent desk and chair next

Only made a couple of amendments:

Asus MG279Q ROG Dominator 27" FREESYNC IPS 144Hz £499.99

Gigabyte X99M Gaming 5 - Intel Core i7 5820K Six Core CPU & Motherboard Bundle ***£20 Saving*** £449.98

Asus Radeon R9 290X ROG Matrix 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (MATRIX-R9290X-4GD5) x 2 £499.90

Avexir Core Red Series 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-21300C15 2666MHz Quad Channel Kit (AVD4U26661504G-4CIR) - Red Light £179.99

Crucial BX100 500GB SSD SATA 6Gbps 7mm Solid State Drive (CT500BX100SSD1) £149.99

EVGA SuperNova G2 1000W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply £134.99

Corsair Obsidian 650D Gaming Windowed Midi Tower Case - Black (CC650DW) £109.99

Corsair Hydro H100i GTX 240mm High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060021-WW) £101.99

Corsair K70 Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - Black – Red Switch (CH-9000011-UK) £99.95

Seagate Barracuda 2TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache - OEM (ST2000DM001) HDD £66.98

Total : £2,293.74

Kept the X99 as it's currently at £450 so not much more than the 4790. Have changed the case to a midi tower as was slighlty concerned about space and heat if I was going to SLI the 290s. Have also upped the SSD to 500gb.

Pretty much all the CPU coolers appear to be on pre-order. Any idea why this might be?

Errr, with an ATX compatible case you can get a big ATX sized board and that will give more space between the cards.

The mATX board you still use the top 2 slots ideally, the same as if it was in the first case option.

The cooling of that Phanteks Evolve is good, it has a large quality front fan.

Corsair had to recall some (specifically the H110i GT) and the older models will now be end of life.

This coolermaster is in stock - https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-065-CM&groupid=701&catid=2330&subcat=2341

Just placed an order for pretty much what was in the first option but with the BenQ XL2730Z 27" screen and larger SSD.

Thanks for the help. I shall post a pic when it's built :)

Yep. Will probably change the graphics card once the 300 series are here and settled in but expect the rest to last me a good while

So, the graphics card finally came in stock today but just as that happened the CPU cooler has gone out of stock and is now going to be back ordered. Are there any alternatives that are in-stock that I might be able to switch to?

Have put a call out to customer services to find out how long the delay might be but might order an alternative if there is going to be a long-ish delay.
