Right now I've got my room sorted out in my new barracks its about time I got a new system in place. Ill go to about £1000 max on this I think. It will be used for nothing but gaming when im doing my "personal admin" ;) I already have a half decent monitor so I'll leave that out for now. Spec away lads!

Cheers mate. Quick question though; would it be better for me just to buy a complete system as im a biff and know nothing putting systems together, thats what my brother is for!

if you can get someone to teach you how to build it ,then no. however if you cant and no amount of guides on the internet can teach you then yes.

i'll also spec you something using the system builder so you can compare

cpu stock speed between the e8400 and e6850 is stated as the same, however the e8400 is faster due to it being a newer cpu that uses newer tech.

the 3870x2 is slightly faster than the 8800GTX.

personally i prefer the corsair PSU over the OCZ ones.

the asus maximus forumla has a x38 chipset that is newer and gives 2x16 pcie ports as opposed to the 1x16 and 1x4 pcie ports you get with the p35 chipsets. this makes no difference if you are not using a dual graphics card solution. the abit pi35 pro is still a good MB.

with cases you are limited to what OCUK has decided to use.

yes it's £50 over... but if you really need to lose that £50 you could buy a different cpu cooler, maybe a tuniq tower, that way you can lose the 120mm fan as well

notice there are two HDDs, that's for a RAID0 setup, those drives are also the low seek-time versions, so that should be fast as a...fast thing on wheels.
