I dont think you can go wrong with something like this. Pretty much using the best components in each of their markets.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.83GHz 12MB-cache (1333FSB) Processor - Retail (£234.99)

Scythe Ninja II CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775) (£31.71)

Asus Rampage Formula Intel X48 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard (£185.64)

G.Skill 4GB DDR2 PK PC2-8500C5 (2x2GB) CAS5 Dual Channel Kit (F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK) (£82.24)

Samsung SpinPoint F1 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache - OEM (HD103UJ) (£84.59)

Gainward ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 2048MB GDDR5 TV-Out/Dual DVI/HDMI (PCI-Express) - Retail (£370.11)

LiteOn DH-4O1S-10C 4x Blu Ray Reader SATA Drive - OEM (£88.11)

Antec Twelve Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case (£123.36)

Tagan PipeRock TG800-BZ 800w Modular BZ Series PSU (£117.49)

Total = £1318.26

Case is personal choice and you could get whatever you liked obviously.

What res do you intend to game at?

But for just the base, £1500 is a lot. How about...

A faster Dual-Core is better for gaming ATM :)
