My current spec is below and it cannot keep up with the latest games like battlefield : Bad Company 2, so its time for a change. Not upgraded my pc or looked at many parts in 2 years and this is what i have come up with :-

I dont have a PSU in the list because i was hopeing to use my old corsair 620

will the ATI 5870 be enough for future games?

If you wanted to you could just upgrade your gfx card, the rest of your system should still be more than adequate, the 5870 will be good for a good 2/3 years yeah, the one thing I would look at is get a monitor thats 16:10 so 1920x1200 rather than 1920x1080, assuming gaming is your priority not movies this aspect ratio is better

5870 good enough for future games - yes (see sig..I've got 2!!!...lol)

save yourself a tenner and go for the 920 retail. You get 3 years warranty instead of a year with the OEM 930. And of course you can OC the 920 easily enough anyway!!

The rest of the spec looks solid. You could swap a few things out to save some money.

This CPU cooler is popular at the moment

although you have to factor in the cost of 1 or 2 fans as well

or the ever popular Prolimatech Megahalems. I'm in the process of swapping over to the Corsair H5O in my rig at the mo.

+1

A 3.4GHz core 2 quad, 4GB DDR2 system is not going to hold you back in modern games. If you put in a new graphics card like that 5870 (or even a 5850) then you will get a massive boost in gaming power.

With the money saved you could always go for a 120Hz or IPS monitor or maybe even an SSD.

i was thinking of just an upgrade but i was afraid the rest of the system would not last me long enough.

i chose the monitor above because its the same looking model as my current samsung 20" 2033 i was going to use as my 2nd display.

upgrade vs start again is hard descision.

If you upgrade with just the GPU, 5850 or 5870, at least you be able to carry it over to a complete system rebuild in a year or so time! And still get the most benefit and use out of your current rig?

thanks for the feedback guys, think youve talked my into just upgrading. going to wait for the new nvidia card which releases in 3 weeks aparently and order a new 24" monitor meantime. :D
