Hello

I have just purchased a new CPU and mobo with 4GB of RAM. I have installed it all OK, in my case. However I cant get any display to the monitor, fans all spin etc.

Parts used are:
i5 2500k
MSI GD53 P67
2X2GB CORSAIR XMS3 1600MHz

When I turn it on it has 4 quite rapid beeps at different pithces, followed by 5 beeps.

Help please :( I am really beginning to hate computers.

Edit: Sorry it is actually 3 beeps, 2 at the same pitch followed by one higher beep. Then five long beeps.

Double check the manual for correct placement for memory.

All power connections connected including the 8 pin for cpu power and any power connections to the gpu.

Memory placed all OK, double checked all power connections. Only have CPU, Stock CPU cooler and memory installed but still getting the beeps. No post :(

Yea CPU Fan is spinning, it has a clear CMOS button which I have pressed with no joy. I will also trying to clear CMOS with the jumper now.

Hi there,

Just to confirm, are the memory modules both in the blue slots? If they are in the black slots then the system can't boot.

Do you have GPU installed, and if you do which slot did you use?

I have tried with both sticks of RAM and single stick, used in the blue slot(s). I am still getting the beeps with or without the GPU connected. I do not get any display on the monitor.

The system won't be able to boot without a GPU installed, make sure it is in. Also, make sure it is the upper-most blue PCIE slot (the one closest to the CPU).

I would also suggest just installing one RAM module at the moment in the left-most blue RAM slot - again, the slot closest to the CPU (this slot needs to be occupied for the system to boot) and try each module individually in this slot and see if you get any joy.

Hopefully silly question: Did you install the motherboard onto metal stand-offs or directly onto the case side? Also, if you used stand-offs, are there any surplus (ones which won't screw in) behind the motherboard?

It may be worth posting up a few photos of all the connections you have made onto an imagehosting site then providing us the links. When people have start-up trouble like this- these photos often help us home-in on the issue quickly.

I'm only guessing here.

The 2 quiet beeps plus the third beep in a different tone are a normal part of the boot process. Both my MSI boards do it.

The next 5 beeps are there to tell you something.

Assuming the BIOS works the same as other AMI BIOS's then 5 beeps means a CPU error.

Have you definately installed the 8 pin power supply for the processor?

Are you sure you put the processor in the socket correctly?

OK, I have double checked the CPU is installed correctly in the socket which it is, I had an aftermarket CPU cooler fitted. I have installed the stock one to be sure.

I have tried searching about this CLICK bios but cant seem to find any beep codes anywhere which doesnt help.

The CPU is brand new with the mobo. I know that the motherboard quotes memory of 1333MHz to be used but the RAM I am using is 1600MHz, but I assumed it would be post still? Am I wrong to think that, im pretty sure I was advised it would be OK.

I am really starting to hate this PC building!

Don't worry about the memory not being 1333MHz, this RAM is know to work fine with these P67 boards and will just default down to 1333MHz or lower until you specifically tell it to run at 1600MHz in the BIOS.

Would you be able to answer the questions in post #10?

Also, may I ask what make and model number GPU and PSU you are using with this system?

Don't despair, when you do have it up and running this problem will seem like a minor inconvenience.

You haven't answered any of these questions or confirmed you've followed this advice:

Thanks for the reply, I have installed the mobo on the stand offs all OK. I have a couple of the stand offs where the screws dont go in particularly well. I have tried re-tightening and will try and boot the mobo on the anti static packaging tomorrow to be sure. In the mean time, I have also messaged MSI.

I will try this tomorrow as well as posting a picture up.

DO NOT START THE SYSTEM WITH THE MOTHERBOARD ON THE ANTI-STATIC BAG.

To create the anti-static effect the bags are slightly conductive forming a Faraday cage around the item to be protected.

If you're going to assemble the system outside of the case just put it on the carboard box the motherboard came in.

Hopefully answered those questions now thanks.

My PSU is a modular Corsair HX650 and the GPU is a Gainward 460 GTX.

Ta for the heads up.

Thanks for interest Surveyor. I have mounted the mobo on the box and it still will not display anything on the monitor. I am debating wether to order another mobo in the meantime for testing purposes. Atleast if it still doesn't boot I know its not the mobo but possibly the gfx card or the CPU itself?

Is this a good idea do you think or am I jumping the gun a bit?

It just seems like I have spent over £300 for some furniture which is very frustrating for me. Feels like I am not getting anywhere fast. I have messaged MSI who have told me to do the obvious with clearing CMOS etc, any then try a different gfx card and CPU. But I don't think its the sort of thing you have lying around is it?

Thanks for your help so far.
