Hey,

Im in need of a new graphics card to replace my trustworthy 7950GT.

As i know well to what i know lol, the pci-e connector from the psu connects to my card with 6 pin.

...
... Type of connection

Basically as above

There's only one available in my PSU, but i have like 5-6 spare Molex cables.

Im in need of either a 4870 or a GT260. But my problem/worry is, i read that there are molex - PCI-E power splitters, 2 molex =1 pci-e power cable also i read. If i got two of them, would it work as well as if i had 2 normal PCI-e power cables from my PSU, and also, how comes on the GT260, there are 2...6 mins connections and 1 8. I am so confused on the cabling and powering on those 2 cards which require 2 power cables from the PSU. Could somebody help me please :(

I will upload a screenie of the inside of my rig in about an hour as im at my gf's house at the moment, but im all confused :(

Thank you

From what i can see both the ATi 4870 and the GTX260 both use 2 x 6 pin pci-e power connections
as you mentioned you already have one on your PSU so using one of the molex adapters the use 2 x molex connections to produce one 6 pin pci-e connection will be fine
What you need to do is check the amount of amps availeable from the +12v line of your PSU this is most likely to be your weak spot as you PSU only has 1 pci-e connection
as long as its above 30 amps i believe that is fine to run either of those cards
