new gfx card - PCI-E 2.0 confusion.

My motherboard is a Gigabyte ga-p35c-ds3r. Firstly I am unsure of whether it's PCI-E slot is PCI-E 2.0 or PCI-E 1.0. The graphics card I had was nvidia geforce 8800GTX. I want to upgrade to a new graphics card, but stay within the limitations of my mobo. The system is about 3 years old but

Either:

Recommend a reasonably priced compatible graphics board

OR PREFERABLY

Explain the difference between these PCI versions and how they affect the choice of graphics card I can choose from.

pci-e 2.0 will work in 1.0 its backwards compatible.

pci-e 1.1 still has plenty of bandwidth to power todays and next gen cards
