Yo, how do's,
I came here a while ago trying to decide on gfx.
i got a MSI HD7850 1GB for £110, which after reading reviews and benchmarks i thought would be fine. But in game/benchmarking it’s not as good as I thought it would be. Is my CPU that much of a bottleneck, that it’s struggling already

Pass mark Performance Test Scores:

Latest Drivers From MSi - 450-500
Latest Drivers From AMD - 900-1100
Beta Drivers From AMD - 900-1000

Games Benchmarks 1650x1050 Max Settings unless stated

Used Beta and Latest Drivers with same or unnoticeable results

NFS Most Wanted - Min-Max: 17-60FPS AVG 23-24FPS
[with medium Shadow details, with no Ambiance Occ and no Light Scattering, No Blur and Medium VFX]

Far Cry Blood Dragon- dx11 and even with Low settings is unplayable, dx9 with medium settings is slightly more playable bit i still Min-Max: 12-36 FPS AVG 21-23 FPS

Should this be this low? or is it my SPU bottlenecking, but then again why is my Passamrk for GPU so low[a HD5770 is better]

I will try Haven 3.0 benchmark today, as Bit-Tech Review said 1300 is the score for the card so i expect 1000 at least with my regretfull CPU.
so any ideas comments, could be my Low/entry Level MB causing this, or PSU lack of power

Unfortunately your CPU is not great but I can't imagine it causing a massive bottleneck. When you open up task manager when playing a game what is the core usage like?

I doubt it's the PSU or the motherboard but what make is the PSU?

Avg: 29.892 - Min: 26 - Max: 39
Avg: 30.677 - Min: 24 - Max: 61

a bit better, the 61 and 62 fps comes from when on a non 3d menu.

Forgot to ask in last post but what is the GPU usage like in games?

If the CPU is powerful enough it should go to around 95%-99% most of the time however, if the usage dips below 90% it could be a strong indicator to a CPU bottleneck.

Those settings seem to be locking the FPS at 30, are you v-syncing, not being able to get to 60, so it drops to 30?

[Used 13.11 Beta Drivers]
Smoogels: I will check today so GPU should be at 95+ish but if dipping CPU is a bottleneck.

krooton: ye si ahve to go to Documents/CriterionDames/NFS/Config openw ith text file and change [Locked to 30=False] to true, yes this does lock to 30ish but it allows me to play without sub 22fps dips.

https://forums.geforce.com/default/...ix-for-nfsmw-2012-until-criterion-patches-it/

From the above link and other internet sources seems like i can Lock at 60 or 120 untill a patch in released. It seems like patch issue a lot of people haveign tehs ame with better GFX.

I was able to play Bloodcry at

1650x1050 Ultra Settings at DX9 and was abel to play with some jittering here and there when things get messy. i will benchmark this today

So today

1. Check GPU Load when Max gameing[NFS/FarCry:BD]
2. Benchmark when lock to 60 and 120[NFS]
3. FarCry:BD know patched will benchmark at 1650x1050 Ultra Settings at Dx9[apprently DX11 in FC:BD is not worth it] with 13.11 and 13.9 driver

Will update later on today

But what worries me more is the Performace Test results from Passmark. 1000Avg score isnt the best when 5770 seem to be 50-60% better.

Also in a Wattage calculator even with the GPU OC'd 500watts is fine
