Well i have almost finished uni and im looking to upgrade my entire PC however the main part im struggling to decide what to have is the Graphics Card.

When the GX2 came out they were £400 and i thought to my self, nah to high, now the BFG is £360 its really got me tempted and i really looked forward to playing games on ultra high settings. However i have always said to my self never spend more then a £250 on a graphics card. The most ive ever spent is £170 on a X1950 almost a year and a half ago now. I still have this card and its great, runs all the games i want it to on okish settings.

So it basically i can save my self £200 and get a 8800 GTS 512mb and wait for a true next gen graphics card, cause at the moment i feel ati and nvidia aren’t doing much at all. Or just get a GX2 and get it over and done with and sit on that for a few more years.

My overall beget for a new pc is £1000.

I currently have this:
E6600 2.4 ghz
2 gig ram
660 gb hard drive space
X1950 pro
520 watt psu
LG 22 inch monitor.

keeping my X1950 pro, giving this pc to my parents and using it as spare parts. So is it worth getting a GTX then ??? im getting it may time

my mate said to me get a 8800 GT since its the same as a 8800 GTS but slightly underclocked. But tbh i think the 8800 GTS cooling looks much better and better overall

get the GTX before it sells out. Extremely powerful card for the price, and it'll be cheaper to SLI em later on... Not much you can't run on a GTX, except Crysis with all the bells and whistles at 1920x1200... now when you think of SLIing them...

Hello bindip1, I would highly consider the XFX GeForce 8800 GTX Extreme 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI at the price it is currently selling at.

Now, in regards to the power supply unit. You honestly won't need 700 watts for the system you have specified. A power supply such as the Corsair HX 520 will be more than sufficient. :)
Ok thanks for your advice. Compared to the 8800 GTS 512mb how much better is that card ??

Hello bindip1, sorry I didn't take into account the resolution that you will be gamming at.

Since you will be playing games at resolution off 1680x1050, the Gigabyte GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB GDDR3 would actually be the better of the two cards to purchase. Have a look at a couple of reviews, one done by bit-tech and the other by Anandtech. :)
