Hi guys,

Its a good possibility my GFX 290X could be on its way out.

I have a number of other threads open regards on going issues but rather just make a fresh post as to finding a suitable replacement.

Basically what should I get?

These nothing to suggest its at fault but its black Friday/cyber Monday it my be worth to pick up a bargain and sit on it for a week at least until I determine its gone for sure.

Budget around £250 I would really like some improvement over the 290x tbh thinking either 970 or 390.

Well atm if you want the card to still be good for a few years i would say you dont have much choice other than the 390 as the 970's Vram is really limiting when cod is using more than 4gb. I would try though to get a cheap 390x im not a frequent black friday buyer but i would assume you should be able to get one cheap enough.

Also rma your old card if its still got warranty i just rma'd a old 280x and got more than 150 pounds in a refund.Or sell it for parts or something to give your more money for your gpu purchase.

Ive fitted a custom closed loop cooler on the 290x and not sure if that voids the warranty.

Its still in warranty

I think you'd be pretty much moving sideways because they're pretty much the same card. With 8GB VRAM, it's very good value at that price.

I don't know if it suffers from the same issues though, as it's the Grenada GPU core rather than the Hawaii GPU core.
