Hello

Looking to upgrade my existing rig, specs:

MSI H67MA-E45 Intel H67
Intel Core i5-2500 3.30GHz (Sandybridge)
MSI ATI Radeon HD 5850 1GB
BeQuiet Pure Power L7 530W '80 Plus' Power Supply
Corsair Vengeance Pro Blue 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3

I play occasional games at no more than 1080p, although would like the option to game at 1440p in the near future.

I think the only component which bottlenecks this is my graphics card, unless any of you think otherwise?

Any card suggestions? 780Ti? GTX 970? Or are these overkill?

They're overkill yeah but there's never been anything wrong with overkill in the world of computing. Give it six months and they'll be a necessity.

Both cards you mention are pretty much dead level and perfect for your needs. Don't discount the R290 though as it is right in there with them at a much lower price.

Obviously you've been on AMD drivers for years now so you should be used to them.

Vrams not the be all and end all when looking for a suitable card.

Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 Revisited. It holds up pretty well regardless of the 970 Vram saga.

People say that but I have been screwed three times now on VRAM.

1. I had a pair of GTX 295s and BF3 made them paperweights. They were in my surround rig for playing racing games.

2. BF3 used more than the 1.3gb my GTX 470 had.

3. My GTX 670s are now pretty much paper weights in any modern game. I paid £340 each for them.

TBH 4gb isn't even going to be enough but I would feel much more comfortable with a full 4gb of VRAM than 3.5gb and then a rubbish 500mb buffer on the end.

Wouldn't business me in the slightest. By the time it becomes an issue with the 970 so it will the 290. Both will run out of grunt before it becomes a major problem.

So my 670s in SLI are obsolete due to grunt?

Sorry man, don't agree in the slightest.
