Decided to buy a new rig and have settled on the Titan Bayonet overclocked

Was initially looking at a 480 or 1060 to keep the cost down but as i also want to get a 1440p 27" monitor it seemed more sensible to get a 1070

Am i right in thinking that for the monitor i want the 1070 would be be the right choice and any recommendations for a good combo. Currently got the Zotac GTX 1070 Founders Edition and the Dell S2716DG 27" 2560x1440 TN G-Sync 144Hz sat in my basket... there is an IPS version of the Dell which is a lot cheaper, is the G Sync worth the extra bucks?

Thanks

I'd say G-sync is well worth it, and coupled with a 1070 you're in for a good time, though I'd suggest one with an aftermarket cooler. For reference I have a 980Ti and 1440P monitor so your setup will be comparable, and I can still max most games with good framerates.

Got a 1070 & the Dell S2716DG myself. It's a decent enough combo.

Like most panels these days though, you've just got to keep your fingers crossed that you get a good one. See the monitor sub-forum for why I say this.

Good luck.

PS. Yes, I think Gsync is worth it.

Agreed. My monitor was a B-grade and has minor issues, but for the price I'm not complaining, it was a big upgrade from my 1080p TN panel.

is the G Sync worth the extra bucks?

For most of my time as a gamer, I've not been really that bothered by tearing, but more recently I've become increasingly sensitive to it. In fact, during a gaming session a week or two ago, the frame rate dropped below where G-Sync could function, and then I really noticed it! So, from now on, I very much expect I'll be choosing a monitor with G-Sync / FreeSync. Definitely a keeper for me. :)

I bought the same monitor you refer to in your post and am very pleased with the purchase. I was a little concerned about it being a TN panel, but I've found it to be much superior to my previous screen: a 60hz 1200p (quality for the Samsung monitor sat somewhere between a VA and IPS, iirc).
