New GPU blocking PCI port for soundcard

Hi,

I've just upgraded my GPU and I've recently found out that I can no longer install my Sound blaster sound card as the Raedon RX5700 XT is nearly blocking the PCI-e Port because its a fair bit wider than my previous card. What options do I have to get around this? I really need the soundcard for my 7.1 Headset as it uses optical input.

Thanks

Carl

Case allowing you could maybe use a PCI-E 1X extension/riser cable?

Unfortunate that the motherboard doesn't have an X1 slot above the X16.

The case is rather small, I did wonder if you could use a PCI-e Extension and mount the sound card slightly differently ? Just taking some pictures now.

You should be able to get a riser cable in there, maybe screw the card into the bottom bracket.

You'll block some airflow to your GPU though, although it might not be too bad.

The only other thing I can think of us seeing if a USB to PCI-E X1 adapter will work and running the card externally.

There is some sagging from the GPU, i'm going to fabricate something to address that issue. Once the GPU is sat level I do believe there will be enough room to physically plug in a PCI-e Extension. How does it work, do I simply plug the extension into the MB and then it will just plug and play with the sound card ? there should be plenty of room like you said to run it in the bottom bracket.

I'm not even sure if I went down the correct route with the soundcard. I have 2 headsets an Astro A50 Gen 4 and Turtle beaches 800X. Both of them require an optical out port to be used to their full potential. I found before I installed the sound card both headsets behaved like cheap nasty £10 head sets. For example they both work on the Xbox via Optical and product amazing sound, on the pc without the soundcard they sound basic and surround sound certainly doesn't work at all. I'm assuming there is no other way around this issue apart from running my 7.1 sound blaster ?

Yeah, that's pretty much how it works, it's literally just an extension cable you want.

Is this the correct extension cable - ***competitor rules***
Do you have any recommendations of brand etc ? or a good place to order one from ?

What you want is a "PCI-E 1x ribbon", which unfortunately OcUK don't stock and we can't promote competitors.

However they can normally be found for less than a fiver.
