Hi All,

I have been trying to decide on what new GPU to order but just can't choose.

I currently have a EVGA GTX 570 SC and I am currently torn between:

Asus HD 7970 Matrix Platinum
or
Asus Radeon R9 280X DirectCUII TOP
or
Nvidia card of similar spec
or
should I wait for the Sapphire Radeon R9 280X Toxic?

My current system is a little old and is running:

Intel 2600 CPU (not K edition)
MSI Mpower Z77 Motherboard
16GB Ram - Can't currently remember what speed / manufacturer.
2 x Samsung 840 SSD
Corsair HX750 PSU

Appreciate the help.

I will say wait for the toxic. It is cheaper and newer than the platinum. It probably wont have as good of cooler (we dont know this yet) but it is clocked the same with a higher boost clock and looks to have a very good power design.

Here is a review highlighting a few things: http://www.bjorn3d.com/2013/10/sapphire-radeon-r9-280x-toxic/

Edit: actually, the cooler looks really good. lol

Personally i would wait for the Sapphire Radeon R9 280X Toxic? and u never know they might be relasing the gold tickets etc soon with these cards but not sure when , would laugh if its in the next week or so

The price drop of the 7970 Matrix and the MSI R9 280X Gaming edition are very very tempting. I am bit worried about the couple 7970 matrix "faulty" threads recently started...

I think I will be buying a graphics card tomorrow - any final thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Or any graphics options I have overlooked.

There is only one or two threads like that because of the ridiculous amount of matrix cards sold in the offers last weekend. I think Gibbo even added another 150 after the original set of stock sold out!

You wont be disappointed with either card but the matrix cooler is amazing if you have the room for it.

I was impressed with the performance of the Matrix. Its just a shame both of mine were faulty. :(

Think I am going to take the risk and order the 7970 Matrix! I did regret not ordering it last time it was on offer... if I do get a faulty one I guess I can just RMA it...

Just as I had my mind made up Gibbo drops the 7990 price and makes this much harder...

Will my system run the Asus 7990? - i currently have 1 x 24" monitor running 1080p gaming but i am looking on getting another 2 x 24" or selling my current 24" and getting 1 x high-res gaming monitor.

I am looking to order today.

No your system wouldn't run the 7990, you'll need a complete rehaul with haswell i7, 1kw+ PSU etc ;)
But seriously yes should be fine from what I've read.

Decided not to go for the 7990 and thought I would try my luck with the matrix 7970 as i put the extra cash towards a new recurve bow :)
