New gpu finally!

My PC gave up the ghost finally so now I have justification to purchase a new one! I'm ordering the parts later this week, usual top end stuff, 8700k, Z370-E, etc etc. A whole new build, my old PC is far too old to 'upgrade'.

I'm going back into watercooling but not until I've sourced a GPU. I'll be holding onto my 980ti for a while until the right GPU shows up as prices are just stupid at the moment. I game at 1440p but at some point would like to push 4k however that's not this year. So, what gpu should I go for?

The new 2080 when it releases? I really do like the ti models but I feel that won't be until later this year?

Are nvidia ever going to battle the ever increasing crypto currency warehouses buying out all the GPU's or are they smitten that all their stock is being gobbled up at insane price so turning a blind eye on the matter?

the new ti is probably about a year away.

The 980ti is still a very capable card. You just need to ask yourself :

- Am I happy to wait 3 months for the new gen?
- Am I happy to wait a year for the new ti?

That'll decide it for you. If 3 months, get the 80, if a year, wait for the ti.

Happy to wait 3 months. Not a year.

Is there anything on the new cards coming out in 3 months?

There’s no definite information, but at present it seems to make sense.

You’ll probably be able to get an 80, perhaps a new Titan if they release one.

Ok, well thank you. I'm more than happy with my 980ti but my wife has her eye on it to upgrade from her 1060 as she wants to move to 1440p. So it gives me a decent reason to get an upgrade.

I assume there is absolutely no point in getting a 1080ti at this point? Due to price and it's life cycle.

It’s up to you ultimately mate, it’s your hard earned spondoolies..

I have a single 980 now, substantially less powerful than your gpu, and the 1080ti makes no sense to me at the minute. There’s a mini on ocuk for £699.99, good price considering the climate. But I’m waiting for the next generation ti. if I were you I’d wait to see what the 1180 offers.

If you’re desperate there’s no denying the power of the 1080ti, and that there’s always something round the corner. But everything seems to indicate the next gen is right around the corner, would you kick yourself if the 1180 was £150 cheaper and more powerful? Would you wish you waited for the next ti? Or would you be happy to get the market has to offer now, and just enjoy it?

I’m not making this easier am I...:p

PS. Super jealous that the mrs is into gaming!

Very valid point. I think I'll see how the 1180 fends against the current line up. 90% of the games I play at 1440p are easily eaten up by the 980ti and I'm very happy with it. So thank you for your input mate :)

As for the wife, yea, she's as big a nerd as I am and only just bought her 1060 a week before my PC gave up and I handed her my 980ti to use for now.

It’s no worries, I often need a sanity check to see if I’m doing the right thing.

Mrs has no interest in games, at all. At least she lets me get on with it :D

I wish that were the case sometimes, I'm a mythic wow raider and I've had to high jack her computer 3 nights of the week simply to be on time for raids lol. She understands though which is a plus.
