New GPU/Monitor not playing sound

Hey guys,

I posted about this issue over in graphics cards and one of the issues I had got sorted: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/t...frames-audio-and-fans.18887279/#post-33609497

But I've having an issue with sound since I upgraded my GPU to an RTX 2070 Super and monitor to Asus VG27AQ.

What's happening is that sound works fine after I boot up the PC, but after a while (I think after one or both monitors sleep) I can no longer hear sound on either monitor. I can still hear sound from headphones connected to motherboard audio,

The two monitors still appear as output devices and display volume levels when I play sound, but I can't hear them. They are connected by HDMI and Display Port.

I've updated to the latest Nvidia drivers and uninstalled AMD ones.

Anyone got any ideas?

It sounds to me as though Windows is defaulting audio to the motherboard audio when the output to the monitor/s goes to standby.

If you have headphones connected to the motherboard audio, are you using those for game audio, or the monitor speakers?

If all else fails you can simply switch to the Nvidia audio drivers and just plug your headphones or speakers right into your monitor.

I'm having some minor issues with an onboard sound Realtek driver and have simply switched to my monitor headphone slot and Nvidia drivers until I can be bothered to fix it.

Works perfectly fine as an alternative if you're tired of tinkering around with onboard sound drivers etc.

Thanks for the replies. I generally use the headphones for game audio and the monitor for all other audio (Netflix, youtube, etc.). I'm pretty sure that windows defaults to my VG27AQ monitor when its on, though I don't know whats happening when its off.

I'll try connecting through the monitor jack and see if that solves the problem, though I would definitely prefer to not have to fumble around at the back of the monitor every time I want to switch.
