Hi all

My old man has GTX660 and feels like its time to get an upgrade, He plays most simulator games, Hes always on Flight simulator so wants something to get good FPS at 1080p...

Hes not looking at spending to much and was just wondering what's out there that will be ideal

Hes always used GeForce GTX models so what would be your recommendations please

His system has a 3570 non K version in but is going to buy a 6600k used in a couple of months so the GPU will have to go well with the current CPU and the future one please

I did mention the RX range but he seems to like his GTX cards only, I also said try used but he always likes to buy new from OCUK :) He like the Palit 1060 at £180 but its 3GB will that be ok for his gaming

Does he have a 60+ hz monitor ?

Also depends on Freesync/ G-sync or thinking of future monitor upgrade .

580/1060 should do the trick . 1070 would last longer but funds could be out towards 6700 over 6600

Don't get the 3 GB version of the GTX 1060: not only does it have half the VRAM but the GPU is cut down compared with the 6 GB version.

So under £200 hes said these:

1060 3GB
1050Ti 4GB
RX570 4GB

So the only other option really is to buy used like a 970 or 980

I'd go rx480 in my opinion.

However something like an EVGA 970/980 in my opinion if your looking at the best nvidia perf under £200. They are both still great cards for 1080p.

I say EVGA for their transferable warranty so your father would still have full warranty with the card until it runs out ofc.

Yeah I did say to him that I am after a GPU for my build and a lot of you on the forum said second hand 980 will be an ideal card... do they still sell new 970 cards as he's very funny with second hand bits and sellers

Assuming flight simulator means FSX then go for Nvidia, it's no secret FSX prefers Nvidia cards over ATI/AMD.

I love FSX and get very good fps @ 5760x1070 over three monitors in Nvidia surround, the game is FAR more sensitive to CPU performance than GPU performance.

+1

Unless he is moving on to new sim like XPlane 11 I would stick with an Nvidia card. I would personally try to stretch to an 1070, but if not get a 1060 with 6gb. Do not touch 3gb!

Yeah that's the one and he said there is a be flight one out this year soon... I'm not sure what his monitor is all i know is that its 1080p... I will see what he can do with funds to get a 1060 6GB if not then a 970 will have to be the next step for him
