FYI Thread
GPU Particles for everyone, this is good news!! Nothing in the PC industry should be exclusive! Just because we buy Green or Red GPUs doesn't mean us gamer's should not get to enjoy the games to there max.

We have added 'GPU Particles' which replace the no-longer-supported Nvidia PhysX Particles. These GPU Particles can be enjoyed on all Platforms with varying intensity:
Off/Low/Medium/High... LUDICROUS!

Since Warframe began, our PhysX Particles have not been 'one size fits all'. They've been tied to specific GPUs, never on console, and it's been a visually delightful but imbalanced experience. The next Mainline update (this May) will see "Nvidia PhysX Effects" become a new, universal & proprietary experience: "GPU Particles". Read on for the Why, How, and When!

Why?
The latest version of PhysX (the physics framework that Warframe uses to simulate the world) is dropping support for the physics particle simulation feature. So in order to be able to take advantage of the many performance and stability improvements that Nvidia has made to PhysX over recent years, we're making a new particle system solution ourselves! This new GPU Particle system will be less RAM intensive, work on all Platforms, AND be completely optional!

How?
We are converting the main PhysX items to our new GPU Particle system. We'll have many particle FX converted at launch, but will spend some time continuing to upgrade our catalog throughout the year. Our new system is universal, works on almost all GPUs (really old ones might be out of luck), is not locked to a given manufacturer, and is not locked to PC!

When?
We expect to have Mainline with GPU Particles on PC mid-May! Consoles can expect GPU Particles soon after PC.

Bonus: What?
Now I’m sure you’re wondering how all of this will look! Here are our new GPU Particles in action.

A particle burst from our tests in April. You can see them interact with the environment as they hit the floor:

Added more features earlier this month! GPU Particles respond to game physics and mavity

More refined particle physics: GPU Particles respond to explosions and collisions

Beautiful visuals. All platforms. This month! This is shaping up to be a particle-arly lovely update Thanks for playing Warframe!

But I liked feeling superior with my Nvidia GPU!

It uses less RAM, but what about other system resources? What is the effect on GPU/CPU load?

Where is all this from as it looks like the OP wrote it ? Please quote where you got this from, unless you created it ?

Never played it but good that others can experience some good particle physics. I am a big proponent of what Ageia did and still enjoy it in things like Borderlands, Alice: Madness returns etc.

Yup, just a shame that nVidia haven't seemed to develop it at *all* in years! Like I've said before, considering the absolute size of the company they just seem to do the bare minimum for gamers now which is a damn shameful state of affairs.

This looks damn good though, is it live yet?

People on the forums are saying it performs and looks way better than PhysX ever did. One guy said he was dropping to the 40s and 50s before, now in the same location he doesn't drop below 102FPS.

I really liked the Ageia Physx in Cellfactor, Now that was really advanced, Such an under used tech, It's a damn shame it's not used more in games -

How long do you think it'll be, before Nvidia shuts it down ?

:p

Nvidia can't really do anything as they are removing Nvidia Physx altogether and using an in house method :)

EDIT

My bad I read wrong, Still can't do anything though as technically it won't be Nvidia particle Physx.

PhysX was good in that it allowed them to implement something relatively quickly (I'd guess) but long term it's probably best if games/engines can implement their own versions of these things that are best optimised and suited to their engine/game, rather than using something generic from a 3rd party.

Yeah, we've already AMD for that! :D

Nvidia shut down Physx a few years ago and replaced it with new software Nvidia Blast, Nvidia Cloth, Nvidia Flex and Nvidia Flow.

https://developer.nvidia.com/gameworks-physx-overview

Havok went through the same thing years ago shut down many software Havok FX, Havok Script, Havok HydraCore, Havok Content, Havok Behavior, Havok Animation and Havok Animation Studio to be replaced with next generation software Havok Physics, Havok Destruction, Havok Cloth and Havok AI.

There are not many games used Havok now compared to 10 years ago as Havok titles reduced to 1 to 3 titles a year now, it will probably a few years to 10 years from now will see games developers able to create physics, destruction, cloth and AI with their own engine that will give better stunning visuals and effects will be no longer depend on Havok software.

AMD did similar thing shut down AMD GPUOpen ambient occlusion library AOFX.
