Hi all

As the title says - I'm looking for a new GPU as an upgrade for my EVGA 1060 SC 6gb.

CPU is a i7 6700k and budget is between £300 - £400.

I'm currently gaming at 1080p, though that will change to 4k in the future. I want something that is a worthwhile upgrade, though I don't tend to play the latest and greatest games; my most played recently is Frostpunk, which does make the fan kick in quite loud, so I want a reasonably quiet card.

Any suggestions?

It's a tricky one because I don't want to wait until November tbh because the fan on this 1060 is getting on my nerves, but I would like to get a good card for a decent price. I'll have a look at the RX 5700XTs.

I'm tempted to say pick up a used one for now but those seem hardly decently priced these days. I'd expect more to be hitting the used market now or soon as we're close to next gen
Would be a shame to buy new now when next gen coming from both AMD and Nvidia soon.

That's true but then those new cards will be at the very top end of my price range surely, plus, as you say, the used cards aren't exactly competitively priced anyway.

I'll give it some more thought - the other option would be to look into an aftermarket cooler for my 1060, but I do feel that would be money better saved towards a new shiny GPU lol.

Is the fan making weird noises or is it just a general issue you have with the fans being loud?

If it's the fan going bad just replace it, it's fairly simple to do and you can find replacements for pretty cheap, I've seen replacement GPU fans going for £5-15.

Nah it's just the general noise the single fan makes upon load; it sounds like my PS4 only worse. The card is tiny, so the fan isn't that big and it does irritate me after a while.

Edit: Double post, forum is funky as hell today for some reason.

Yeah it's caught me out on the case section of the forum I posted a new thread but it kinda froze, then when I went back to the case section I couldn't see my thread so I posted it again then two were there?!

Yes it's a tiny card but it's been fantastic; there's a chap on here who was upgrading from a 5850 and I relate this card to that, which I know sounds daft but they are/were such good cards.

I've had a look on the B grade section as Illuminist suggested and I have noticed a ASUS RTX 2070 @ £375, which seems like a great choice but I'm just a bit weary of the b grade.

It's the ASUS RTX 2070 Super, which goes for £499 new.

There's plenty of choice on there though to be fair so I'll take a closer look.

I guess it's pot luck is it in that you get a card and then see what the manufacturer is willing to offer for support if any? I've never bought B grade before so i'd just like to know how it works.

Ta for the responses everyone by the way, much appreciated.

Christ, and I'm considering a B grade card?!

I've had EVGA for the past few GPU purchases and they've been solid, I've got time to mull it over anyway so I'll take my time.

If you were going to buy a new GPU right now, considering my specs and everything else, what would it be?
