new gpu to replacy 9800gx2

Price range? If you're gaming, a 5850 will be a nice improvement, or maybe a 5870 if you're feeling peckish

@ OP: what games do you play? this is THE deciding factor as some games play better on ATi hardware and some on Nvidia hardware, for instance in most games the 5850 the 2nd poster suggested will be a nice improvement but in some games it will be pretty even and in a couple like HAWX it is actually a downgrade from a 9800GX2.

OFC that wont effect most people but if HAWX/Farcry/WoW are your favourite games why fork out £200+ for a 5850 when a GTX260 will do the job just as well for £120 (new).

My advice would be "I don't know" because that's the only honest answer anybody can give you. what you need to do is decide how much you would like to spend and then look at a lot of benchmarks using the games you like and from that decide what type of card will best suit your needs/budget.

Come now - the honest answer would be "any within your price range" as it's difficult to buy a rubbish card in this day and age.

Some offer slightly better value for money, and others perform slightly better in some games, but as an average there is very little difference at this stage in the development cycle.

What is your price range?
What resolution do you play at?
Any specific games you spend most of your time in?
What CPU/PSU?

Sort of, but it's commonly known that there is some price / performance sweet spots. Having said that, you're right that the OP needs to list:

1. System Specs
2. Resolution
3. Games intended to be played
4. Price Range
5. Any other special requirements.
