Current specs are

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660
Gigabyte Z97P-D3 motherboard
Intel Xeon E3-1230 V3 @ 3.3GHZ (8 CPU's) Processor
16gb RAM
Windows 10

What would be the best graphics card for around £250-£300?

Will be used for gaming mainly.

Completely new to this,so if I've missed any info out gimme a shout.

You could wait a little bit see if you can score a 1070 when there's a sale and there will be.

The cheapest 1070 I see right now is £359, but sometimes there are nice discounts / game bundles that can be scored.
Just give it a few weeks and keep an eye on prices / offers and come back to the forums daily. Sometimes deals are announced here before they are advertised outside.

If you can manage to get a 1070 you'll be set for quite a while with great performance.
