Hi,

I am looking to upgrade my graphics card as i would like to play Starfield when it comes out...

My system is :

Ryzen 5 2600x
Gtx 1060 6Gb
Crucial MX300 1TB
HDD 2TB
Vengence DDR4 3200 2 x 8GB

I am thinking its just my GPU that i need to upgrade but not sure to what for cost vs playability...

I am not a big gamer so dont want to spend thousands..

Thanks Luke

What PSU do you have? Game might be CPU limited too,so a Ryzen 7 5700X might be a good upgrade.

In terms of value for money this card:

It should also come with a copy of Starfield Premium:

The CPU is not bad, its not great but not bad, if you can stretch your budget i would upgrade it, you might be able to do that with the existing motherboard.
The GPU though, that needs upgrading.

It would be more helpful if you gave us a maximum budget.

CAT above me made a very good recomendation on the GPU, and its about 3X as fast as your 1060 6GB.

Given that you clearly keep your card for a long time, avoid anything with less than 16 GB VRAM. Definitely look at the RX 6800XT or better. Rumour has it that the RX 7800XT is to be released next month.

As for precisely which card you should buy, I think it's prudent to wait for reviews and benchmarks.

With regards to your CPU, your Ryzen 2600X is the minimum required for Starfield so you might consider an upgrade to a 5600 or 5800 or - if you can afford it - a 5800X3D. Again, waiting for benchmarks will help you make an informed choice. Do remember to update your motherboard BIOS first!

We're really close to launch so as suggested I'd hang on just a bit longer. Once we know if it is CPU or GPU oriented (or how much either way) then it will be a lot easier to make recommendations. AMD should have announced their 7800/7700 cards too.

If you have to buy now, I'd get a 6700 XT since it comes with the game.

Remember your existing graphics card is worth a bit too, so if money is tight you can probably get at least £50 for it on auction sites etc.

EVGA 750 Gq, 80+ Gold 750W

Thanks all, a lot to think about..
I had a look at the RX6700 but it seems that the 3070 is a better card although it is only 8GB? or am i missing something?

Also i see that the Ryzen 7 5600X is recommended over the Ryzen 7 5700X because of the cost?

Thanks Luke

I was in a similar situation and upgraded to a 5700x and have just bought a 6800xt graphics card to go with it. Shop around as prices vary significantly

Thats a good deal with a £65 game with it....

Depends on the game, but overall the 3070 does out come faster (ignoring any VRAM limitations), yes. It's also around £100 more expensive and doesn't come with the game you want to play.

Nobody has mentioned it so I will. If you are going to upgrade your cpu you need to be comfortable doing a bios update for the motherboard. It's a scary but not difficult process as it can brick your board if done wrong or something goes wrong.

You can go for the 8gb nvidia card but games have came out for about a year now that uave shown that gpu to be useless because of its vram. The fact you previously bought a 1060 shows you don't go for the top amount of vram so a 6700xt should do you well for a couple of years. The 6700xt is 2 or 3 generations newer and a step above the 1060.

As mentioned you can go for an nvidia card but it will cost you 100 quid more and then you will ha e to purchase the game aswell so nearly 200 quid more for less performance.
