Hi all,

Please don't laugh, but still rocking a 4gb radeon 280... I've been waiting to get a new gfx card for 3-4 years but prices have been a bit mad. I can't hold out any longer though as I bought Deathloop and it doesn't work due to Direct-X requirements.

My 280 card still works surprisingly well, but in definite need of an upgrade!

The question is, hould I bite the bullet and get a Radeon 6600, or hold out a bit longer? Are there any alternatives?

I only play at 1080p and not too bothered about crazy high frame rates.

My current specs:
- Team Group Vulcan T-Force 16GB (2x8GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C16 3000MHz Dual Channel Kit
- MSI B450-A PRO (Socket AM4) DDR4 ATX Motherboard
- AMD Ryzen 5 Six Core 2600 3.90GHz (Socket AM4) Processor
- Bitfenix Formula Series 650W 80 Plus Gold Power Supply

Any advice much appreciated, thanks! :)

Nothing wrong with a 6600, but if you can stretch to the 320ish of a 6700 it is a fair chunk faster and will give you some more headroom for the future.

Thanks, that's good to know! I saw you can also get a 3060 founders edition for £380, which is maybe a bit much for me. But it is nice there is at least a few options to consider at the moment!

2600 & a 6600 does have a nice ring to it.A 6700 for a sub £300 on a particular Friday deal would be hard to resist over a 6600.

If you can hold our until December when the 7900 GPUs come out it might knock the entire stack down a few quid, could end up getting a decent little buy as the clear out the previous gen stock.

If you can get up to a 1660 super, they are great cards for 1080p.
I believed they are from the Nvidia 20xx series, but weirdly named.
My son has one and loves it, has played Fortnite, COD 2, Elden Ring, all without a problem.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts - much appreciated!! I haven't pulled the trigger yet... so will wait and see what deals Black Friday conjures up!

I think a 6600 will be perfect and a massive upgrade for me. It's also almost poetic, as my first ever graphics card was a Nvidia 6600gt - who remembers that gfx card? :D

I do ! Back in the day mid-range king. Pretty sure mine was an Inno 6600GT. AMD 6600 should be a good card. 6700 even better. I think you'll enjoy whichever you get.

I would recommend waiting until mid December if the new AMD cards are priced right there could be a lot of 2nd hand cards hitting the market and you may be able to get s better deal and the 6000 series could get another price cut.
