My current setup is as follows:

Intel Core I7 920 overcloked to 4.0ghz
6 gig of mem
Asus GeForc 260 with 896MB

After playing fallout New Vegas the pc is struggling with FPS. I was wondering what card would be a good upgrade which would last a couple years? Also would it be worth doubling the mem to 12 gig?

I probably wouldn't double the memory but rather see if you can get anything with a higher speed and lower latency. Also in terms of GPU what's your budget?

It would depends on your budget. I would say get at least a GTX570 and try to find one as low price as possible from a good reputation etailer (but avoid the Palit brand card, and DEFINITELY avoid buying from the bay). At the moment they are around £270~£300 average, but there are places with lower price listed than that but with no stock.

Also, HD6950/HD6970 will be launched the coming Wednesday the 15th. So far there are some leaked reviews that seem to be underperforming comparing to initial expectation, but people are still having doubt as they are not from reliable source. Best bet is wait till Wednesday the 15th, and then the internet should be flooded with reviews on them, including reliable reviewers.

Also, 6GB of RAM is more than plenty...you don't really need to upgrade them.

Agree with marine here, wait until wednesday, check out the reviews on the net for the 6970 amd 6950 cards, compare price/performance between both makes and purchase accordingly:)

Yea, but I wouldn't recommend getting a GTX570 at £300...try to find one cheaper, or hope that with the release of 6950/6970 would lead to price slashing from both sides.

whats a phsyx card all about?

From a technical point of view - not really got a clue:o

But here's my simple way of explaining it:-

1. Phsyx is a tech. owned by nvidia
2. When coded for it some games look prettier. e.g. Mafia 11 with it you see ,allegedly, more realistic cartridge cases being ejected out of guns.
3. Most , if not all , (high end anyway) nvidia cards can run it but it does mean the card taking a performance hit - in using it myself I've never seen any real downturn in performance although I do run it at 'middle' setting only.
4. If you want you can install a second card not for sli but instead as a dedicated physx card.
Such second card does not have to be the same type as your main card(like sli) and is therefore usually a bit less powerful - which keeps cost down.

Obviously you need a motherboard with at least 2 PCIe slots and a powerful enough psu (with connectors).

For myself I've never seen enough of an advantage in running a second 'dedicated' card to warrant the additional cost/heat/noise but each to their own:)

Hope the above helps:)

Am running a 470 myself
