New graphics card for SW:TOR

Hi Everyone,

New the forums so hopefully this is the righ t place (i thought here or the games section). I've recently started playing Star Wars: The Old Republic and am running it on my pitifully poor GeForce GT220 (please don't laugh it coped with Guilds Wars fine). However SW:TOR seems to be a graphics hog, so everything is set to low and it's runing at 20-25fps.

I've been looking at these 2 cards.

I'm looking at the £100 mark and i know this won't get me world breasking results fro the game, but I assume it will be one hell of a lot better. I've always had nVidia in the past, but have no preference. I did notice on benchmark comparison sites the Radeon scored higher, no idea if this is right or not though

Other things about my pc are

Processor: Intel i3 550 3.2Ghz
Ram: 4GB DDR3 PC3-10600

i was told it's very good bang for book. my old cards was about same power as what you have now

Either of those cards will play SWTOR quite happily. Your choice between green or red

6850 vs 460

Out of the three I would pick the 6850 , clearly better than 550 ti, and uses a lot less power than 460 for equal performance, they trade blows depending on game.

Wouldn't bother with the 460. I've tried it and it's pretty bad.

People with 560ti reporting around 45fps which isn't bad. The game is pretty CPU dependant also. Personally i'd go with the 6850.

Might be best to buy the latest copy of CustomPC, like I did, as they have a GPU megatest, that should give you an idea of what you should be buying

this game does seem poorly optimised, upgraded a friends mahcine to a quad recently and has made a nice improvement in swtor

Did see this game running on my brother in laws rig, and the game did look crisp and quite special, one of the best MMO's I have seen if I am honest, but did not get any real playtime with this, too hypnotised with it to give me a try
