New Graphics Card Needed

Hi Guys,

I'm after a graphics card to go with the new PC I'm building. I don't really play games although will be running at a high resolution in Vista (1680x1050) so want something with a bit of power. My biggest concern is noise; it needs to be near enough silent or at least be compatible with one of the "quiet" graphics card coolers that are available.

I would prefer nVidia due to their excellent Linux drivers (It's possible I may move to Linux full time) .

Budget is around £100

Thanks, Nick

If that is the budget and you want Nvidia then a 7900GS is probably your best bet, a good solid card overall, the X1950pro is better but if the drivers are dodgier under Linux that doesn't really make much odds. :)

If you are going Vista then surely you want a bit of DX10 in there? 8600GT would do you proud and isn't far behind x1950Pro performance if you overclock it a little.

Well then some of the cheap cards OcUK stock will do. They can output on each Dual-link DVI up to 2560x1600 (analog displays, 2048x1536 at 85Hz)

Because of Vista I would consider this . Or wait for what ATI have to offer soon :)

Thanks for the input.

This is a bit more than I originaly budgeted but this looks tempting:

I'm assuming this is considerably more powerful thank the aformentioned cards but I'm concerned as to how loud it would be?

Mmmmmmm very nice card and a nice price too, wish I didn't have to spend so much money on my car now ! :)
