Team,

Some advice please. I have some time on my hands and some money to spend...and my eye on the Witcher 3 and both recent Wolfenstein games.

Haven't touched my PC for a while (graphics card in 2012) and I'm wondering how far to go with upgrading for my upcoming May 2015 gaming lock-in ;-)

Current PC
- CPU i7 2600K
- RAM 4GB DDR3
- GFX GTX 670
- PSU Corsair AX850

Monitor resolution is 2560 x 1440 and I don't have to have ultra settings. I'll be happy with 60 FPS with things looking nice.

Can I get away with GFX upgrade or is more fundamental surgery required?

Thanks

Greg

Overclock your CPU if it isn't already. Add another 4GB or 8GB of RAM as there cheap at the moment and then upgrade your graphics card.

As already recommended, I would definitely bump up to 8Gb> of memory.

As you're running a 1440p monitor you may also want to consider a gfx card with more Vram - if your current 670 is only 2Gb and you're experiencing stuttering in games etc?

I run a similar spec to yours with a Dell U2515h 1440p monitor and found moving up to 4gb of VRAM made for a much smoother experience (even 3 Gb). Having said that, I moved up to r9 290x which was considerably faster than my previous card. But I even noticed a considerable boost with the r9 280x which only had 3Gb (but this card would only be a slight improvement over your present GTX 670 - apart from greater VRAM). You can get a r9 290x for as little as £230 and would give considerable boost in performance at 1440p gaming.

But, and I stress, if you're not experiencing any stuttering and not having to compromise your settings in games with your present card then I would stick with your GTX 670 and save your money for next generation card...
