I want to get the Gainward BLISS 7800GT as its on special this week but I've got this nagging question about these new cards. How do I connect my monitor to the card?

Yes its sounds stupid but the 7800 and other in this new vane of cards doesn't have the monitor port like my 6800GT has.

Do these new cards come with an adaptor?

Have you not considered the 256mb x1800 XT, wallops the GT, and its £20 odd cheaper, its even faster than the GTX. :)

Actually scrap that, you can get the 512mb X1800 XT for the same price as the GT now, and that is a much better card.

You left your CAPS on

To OP, the Gainward 7800GT should be a great card, or why not see how things turn out with the 7900 release ;)

The 7800GT is a good card but the X1800XT 512MB is even better (for the same price). And the 7900GT looks to be slower too (with only 256MB ram), hopefully they wont price those too high.

So how much better is this X1800XT?

I have to admit I've ordered the Gainward but I can easily send it back and replace it for the X1800XT. I've always bought Nvidia cards so tended to favour them over ATI and the Gainward does seem to be a pretty good card compared to other GTs and GTXs.

Just wondered if its worth the hassle?

you have just made yourself look like a idiot... lol never mind sounding like one you just did something so stupid.

Personally, I'd stick with your 7800GTX. AFAIK the 1800 series was cheaper and therefore ATI fans could argue it was better value for money.

Then again, no doubt someone will chime in here and correct me :)

He hasnt ordered a GTX, only a 512mb GT.

The x1800xt is a fair bit faster, send the 7800GT back and get the x1800xt!

whay arent you recommending the ati's? they are the better cards.

What, you think he was telling the truth when he said he always picks the better card regardless of brand? No chance

When the card turns up I'll contact OC and see what they say about sending it back. I know I can becuase I rang them just over an hour after the order was placed and they'd already sent it which IMO is excellent service.

I won't even take it out the box but if it turns out theres all manner of hoops I have to jump through then I'll just keep it. I've spoken to a couple of people who have suggested I hit myself with a wet fish as punishment for not getting more info before buying.

I prefer Nvidia only becuase its all I've ever bought. I would says theres some argument for buying the fastest within budget irrespective of brand but then some will remain loyal to one brand even if it isn't the best.

Aye wasnt talking about you, but theres no reason to get the nvidia and every reason to buy the ATi (I bought a 256mb 7800GT a while back and want the ATi :p)

OP - you have a right in law to return the good unopened within 7 days of receipt. It's called the Distance selling act 2000. Just phone them up, tell them you no longer want it and so long as you don't open it, you have the right to return it. They will issue you with an RMA and you can then just send it back for a full refund :). Then you can order the 512MB X1800XT for an amazing price!!!

This is what I was thinking to do but I'm a little concerned that the process will take ages. The lad I spoke to at OC did say I could return it but seem to suggest that it would take some time to be resolved.

I'll give them a call when it all turns up on Monday. We'll see what their response is.
