New graphics card question - risk of sounding stupid!

Not at all - I did it for some RAM not 3 weeks ago. Took about 5 days - OK, seems like a long time but honestly, the performance jump is that big, it is worth it.

In terms of 3DMark as an example

512MB GT - 7800 with a decent CPU
512MB XT - 9500 with a decent CPU

That's about 25% performance in the benchmark. I know benchmarks aren't great but that is an idea....
