I currently own an XFX 5870 1024mb graphics card and was planning on getting another to run in crossfire.

However they seem to have been discontinued and are now hard to find.

Would my current card be good enough to run games like Skyrim, BF3 etc on max settings?

The rest of my system should be fine to run those games(i7 920 @4.00ghz, 6gb ram)

Also, I use a 60Hz 1680x1050 res monitor at the moment but plan to upgrade that to 120Hz 1900x1200, not sure how much that would affect performance though.

If i can't get my hands on another 5870 would one be enough? If not what would you reccomend for around £250?

Edit: Does the card have to be the exact same one for it to work in crossfire? Would a Sapphire 5870 for example work in crossfire with my XFX?

You can Crossfire with any other HD 5870.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like the best time to buy another.

They were expensive when new, dropped in price a lot when the 69xx cards came along and now seem to be pretty pricey again.

try finding another one second hand, the 5870 is still fast on its own, i would wait till the games are released then decide if its worth upgrading.

5870 is more then capable of running any game released this year at 1080 Res! I wouldn't even bother upgrading anything just wait for the 7000 series of cards! Skyrim is a dx9 game and I played the bf3 alpha with a q9550 at 3.6 gig 5870 at 950 core 1300 mem clocks and it ran smooth as anything with everything maxed!

hi
5870s are still very fast cards , even more if you overclock . at 1680 it should rip through most games .
cheers
