Hi all,

My BFG GTX280OC just died on me, I had my bro's GTX260 die on me last year and the RMA took a very long time and we kept having faulty cards returned to us so I do not have the time to go through that again!

Need a replacement card, off to uni next month so preferably not to expensive.

Monitor is running @ 1920*1200.
CPU: Q6600
RAM: DDR2 4GB 1066.
Games to be played, SC2, CODMW2, BF BC2, Mafia 2. Those types of games etc.
Case: Antec P182
PSU is Corsair 650W I think? Has 2*8Pin and 2*6 Pin connectos.

Budget: £150-£250. If really necessary I can go to £400, but I would prefer to save that for when I get the latest card when I eventually buy a new system, especially if the current system specs will bottleneck the card anyway?

So what do you recommend? I am typically an NVidia fanboy, willing to give ATI a chance. I preferably dont want to have to overclock the card, unless it is relatively easy to do.

Also, once the card has been narrowed down, is there a specific brand? I do not want to be stuck in the BFG RMA system again!!!

Look forward to replies!!! Thankyou very much!

P.S. I believe this GTX280 was killed by SC2 causing it to overheat. I have capped the FPS on SC2 now however if poss the new card needs to run nice n cool?

well for £150 - 250 i don't suppose you can go wrong with either GTX 460 1Gb, GTX 470 or HD 5850. you can get GTX 460 for around £180, GTX 470 around £210 and HD 5850 around £220. :)

If you prefer NV, then either the 460 or 470.

I'd be slightly tempted to go with the 460, save up the cash and see what ATI are going to be doing with their new 6xxx series... then you can always sell the NV card and swap, if you want.

The 5850 is pretty damn nice card though.
