I was waiting for a refund to go through so I could then buy the MSI 512mb 7900 GTO, but it seems the price has put it beyond my reach..

What other cards are available that a good for about the £170 area?

PCI-E, not bothered about ATI/Nvidia, would prefer 512mb as i play at 1920x1440

OcUK GeForce 7900 GS 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £119.99
(£140.99)
....450 core, 1360 memory

OcUK Galaxy GeForce 7900 GS OC SILENT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £134.99
(£158.61)
....540 core, 1500 memory

Gainward BLISS GeForce 7900 GS SILENT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail £144.99
(£170.36)
....450 core, 1320 memory

These 3 jumped out at me, but is there any reason for going for the £170 one when the OcUK Galaxy is cheaper and by the looks of it, faster. I think the core speed difference between the £140 and £158 is worth it (and HDTV).

Im changing from a dodgy x1900xt 512mb, so dont want too much of a drop in performance.

Any ATI ideas?

OcUK Galaxy is where my money would go there, ATI's best card in the price range new is probably an X1900XT 256mb which would be a downgrade on what you currently have(assuming it worked and incidentally why aren't you just getting it replaced?).

Once the computer is booted its fine, so would be a downgrade

Its a friend's that I am testing as it didnt work in his, and for him to get it in his computer he had to shave a bit off the plastic heatsink surround with a dremel....so he cant send it back

this card is naturally overclocked ...
PowerColor ATI Radeon X1950 Pro Extreme SILENT Heatpipe 512MB GDDR3 VIVO HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)
or perhaps, though it has 256MB it is still very quick ...
Sapphire ATI Radeon X1950 XT 256MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express)

I had bought a 7900gs which I am happy with but when I had a look at the
Connect3D ATI Radeon X1900 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) for £170 @ OCuk
625MHz ATI Radeon R580 Core (X1900)
- 256MB 1450MHz GDDR3 Extreme performance memory
- 48 pixel shader processors

the 7900gs has only got 20 pipe lines so for that extra few pounds you get a lot more card with the X1900 XT
