I have a 939 X2 3800 cpu (dual core) overclocked to 2.8 gig, 2 gig of ram and am wanting a better card than the X1900 I have at the moment. Would I be better off buying a GTX? or should I go for the 8800 GTS 320 or 640 meg?

Max game resoloution is 1440x900

I am worried about the cpu being the bottle-kneck.

I could also go for a 2900, I really want the most sensible option, I don't mind paying for a GTX if my system can run it ok.

Thanks.

ALthough the cpu will bottle neck you a bit, even with a GTX you will only lose about 10% performance compared to a quad core Intel.

However, as stated, i'd wait now till the new GT, GTS and even GTX revisions come out.

Gt out on 29th October, GTS out end of November and it shouldn't be long after that before the revised GTX is out.

By the time the GT is out, we'll know how these new cores overclock and whether it's worth waiting for the GTS/GTX to come out.
