The pain of playing Crysis on DX9 and knowing it could be so much more on DX10, has finally forced me to take the plunge and order Vista, however I am obviously going to need a DX10 graphics card. I'm not that rich so I want something that is relativly future proof for under £200.

Thank you in advance

Aracnid

But DX10 makes everything so much prettier, or a least according to the screenshots it does. Also why is the 8800 GTS which appears to be worse than the 8800GT (less pixel pipelines, slower speed) more expensive?

Thanks.

P.S. Also why are ATi cards so cheap, the most expensive is £140?

Well it certainly keeps a lot cooler when overclocked!
I checked some Crysis DX9/DX10 side by side youtube videos and the difference was striking. Shame Vista gaming performance is so poor. Thats why dualboot and game in XP. :(

Prettier at a cost of FPS.

The 8800 GT in your price range is the card to get.

Or wait for the new GTS.

Just ignore the end of line GTS based on the G80 core. Its dead tech.

Fair enough, though why don't ATi have a competitor in that price range, or is it just not out yet.

True, but the OP was specifically about wanting to go to DX10. :)
But you're dead right about the performance droop.

The card choice does not change.

8800 GT or new revision GTS .Just making the op aware of the lack lustre perfromance in Vista at the moment.

Especially in crysis.

Indeed you're right.
It's a real shame Vista is poop for gaming. Hope its fixed soon.

They do,

The 3870.

Its just slower than the GT

Where's you're Fountain of knowledge derived from Easy, I want to sip the water from it too.

Yeah but I am getting 30-40 fps on my tiny 18" display (1280x1024) (I haven't got space to go widescreen) so I am less troubled by speed than those of you running 24" displays.

Though on the Vista gaming issue it doesn't look like SP1 will help much at all.

8800 GT will cut crysis nicely at that res on high.

By all means install vista.

But I would do what I do and dual boot with XP.

99% of the time I use XP as it just works.

Vista needs a sevice pack. Sli support and decent GFX drivers.
I would also get Vista 64 and 4 gig of ram if you intend to game on vista also.

Oh I am defiantly doing dual boot, I do a lot of work from home and most of my work related programs probably won't work on Vista, also I play a lot of CS Source so I am obviously intending to still use XP most of the time but for a few games: Crysis, CoH-OF, SupCom Forged Alliance I'll use Vista.
