Howdy,

I'm looking into a new *budget* graphics card for my PC. I'm looking for something low power consuming, which is capable of playing GTA IV at respectable rates, as this is the game i shall be playing 90% of the time i'm on my PC

I've considered the ATi 4670, but some people have told me not to bother as it's a bit 'meh'.

Just wanted some backup, and/or recommendations as to what to get. I don't budget for a card, but don't really wanna spend masses.

If you're in no hurry you could hang on until the 4770 release, just to get a feel for what it's like. It's supposed to be ~96% as powerful as a 4850, use less power and should be cheaper if the hype is right. The release date is the 28th, so if you're in no hurry you could hang on just to make sure you won't kick yourself if it's a much better deal than the 4850.
 
GTA 4 isn't a great port, and needs a lot of power to run smoothly. In fact, the processor is very important - ideally, you want a highly clocked quad to run the game well.

This is something i've heard before. Bearing in mind, i'm not a hardcore gamer, and am looking to a budget PC, how would a Q8400/Q9400 along with a 4670 perform with GTA IV? I could get a 4670 for the same price i sold mine (I had the ASUS one which is way too loud).

There are a couple of threads about it: try here and here.

The few benchmarks that have leaked out put it about 4% slower than a 4850, so it'll likely kick the crap out of a 4670 and people reckon it'll more or less replace the 4830. The US price is supposed to be $99 so people are guessing £80-£85 here. The official word on power is 80W at the highest, so it'll need a power cable for the last 5W that a PCIe slot can't handle.

Guru3D have a review of the RV740 chip here, but for some reason they thought it was going to be the 4750, not the 4770. Nobody else seems to have picked up on a 4750 though, so they might have got their wires crossed.

Like I said, the NDA lift date is only a few days away (28th April), so if you're in no hurry you could wait and see what it's like before you press the buy button. Best to know what you might miss out on before you make your decision.

Definitely, I can hang on and i'll see what price it comes out at, if it's not too bad, i'll look into getting one, if not, i'll consider otherwise.
