New Graphics Card

I've always been at a bit of a loss when it comes to graphics cards, all the technical specs and marketing gibberish is more or less a loss on me as I never follow developments with the technology etc. So, Im after some advice as to what to get for my new graphics card..

Im currently running an IP35-E motherboard, Q6600 cpu, 4gb ram, Windows 7 64bit with an 8800GT.

The 8800gt is starting to show its age, but above all it is stupidly loud. So, I am after a very, very quiet card.. If not passively cooled, but I dont want to compromise too much on performance.

I was advised to get this before, but obviously now I have actually come around to buying it both versions are out of stock.

Could anyone point me in the rough direction I should be heading in? Budget is around ~£150, but dont mind swaying a bit either way.

Assuming you game at 1680*1050, a Radeon 5770 is good. Although performance is worse than the 4890 and sometimes even the 4870, it's very quiet and does not use a lot of power.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Does a 5770 perform better than a 8800gt, I dont seem to be able to find any benchmarks?

While I dont want a blinding top of the range card, if I shelling out ~£150 I do want a fairly substantial upgrade.

Ok, sounds like the one to go for.. Just before I pull the trigger though - How much noise difference would I really notice between:

and

For example? FPS games are my main genre, and I like being able to play the most recent ones - Dont want to shoot myself in the foot and have to upgrade again ~6 months down the line if possible.

EDIT: Or even http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-120-GW&groupid=701&catid=56&subcat=1410

As I assume the two fans would help keep the noise down quite a lot, and I presume a lot better performance than the two cards above?

5770 is more future proof, and consumes less power, less heat, meaning less noise compared to those two other cards. Also drivers in decemeber apparantly give a 20% performance boost aswell.
