Since I'm having troubles watercooling my AMD 5870 (as described here) I'm thinking about what my best options are.

My options as I see them are...
  • Stick with the 4870x2 I'm currently using in the loop. But I'm concerned this dumps more heat into the loop than needed for the performance it gives.
  • I could get another 5870 for £150 and then a waterblock for around £70.
  • I could get a 480 for around £200 and a waterblock for £50. Again i'm worried about the heat it will dump into the loop.
  • I could get a 6950 for around £200 and a waterblock for £75. This is getting expensive...
  • I could get a Gainward 560Ti Phantom for £200 and run it on air and just cool the CPU in the water loop. Bit worried about the heat and noise of the Phantom under load as the idea of the water-cooling was to reduce both of these.

the reason i'm so specific about the 560Ti being a Phantom is that I have this motherboard which has the SATA ports facing upward in an area that would be covered by the air cooler of a longer card.

So what do you guys think would be my best option?

Thanks.

P.S. I'm currently running the 10.5a ATI/AMD drivers, would I gain anything by going to the latest version? Or is they likely to cause more issues tahn they solve?
