ok so i recently purchased a Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 WindForce OC 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card and went to install it with my other graphics card. now im no expert, heck im a noob at these things, so i followed the instructions but i couldnt find anyway of plugging my new graphics card into my power supply as the graphics card came with 2 sets of cables but nothing for them to plug into, there was an open socket in the back of my power supply but its like there was a component missing. unless im completely clueless and am missing something here or i need to purchase some form of cable to connect the missing links?

What PSU do you have?

The things in the box of the GFX card are molex-PCI-E adapters for PSUs without the necessary PCI-E connectors, ideally you want to use the proper connectors if your PSU has them.

this is my pc spec before putting my new card in

i've looked every inch of my case and there's no sign of it. if i was to buy a new one what would i need to search? (my only thought is that my friend who originally built my pc for me must have put them away somewhere in my old flat)

If your friend was clever he would have left the unused PSU cables in the PSU box, find it.

PCi-E modular cables for the PSU you have, show them that pic in the email maybe circle those cables with MS paint or something.
