I want to get back into some casual gaming to stop me going out all the time and spending money but I need a new graphics card and am lost as I've not kept up with anything gaming related.

My current specs are:
  • i7 2600K (3.4GHz / 3.8GHz), though I have a Noctua NH-D14 cooler, so can overclock if need be
  • 8GB RAM 1333Mhz
  • Sandisk Ultra II 480GB SSD
  • 24" 1920 x 1080 monitor
  • Thermaltake Element G Case
  • Corsair RM650i 650W PSU

I really want to play Witcher 2 and Witcher 3 and as long as I don't notice any lag I will be happy and I am not too bothered about running everything at ultra.

I've been looking at the R9 380x which appears to be the card to go for, budget is up to £170.

Any recommendations or advice will be appreciated.

The RX 470 is out next week, that should be within your price range. Barring a disaster it should be faster than a 380X.

Thanks for the replies.

I gather by the responses my CPU and RAM are fine?

I think I will hold off and wait until next week to see what the RX 470 is like, I do also have access to the MM.

The rest of your system is fine, the 2600K's a venerable processor. A 480 would be ideal but see what the 470 brings as others have said.

It's been shown that DDR3 memory at only 1333MHz can hold back performance by a bit (but not hugely, just may be a few fps). If you get the chance, you could may be look into if your ram can be overclocked to 1600MHz, or replacing them if not (and when you have money to spare)?
