I have an old pc running a Nvidia 6800GT graphics card, i've just upated the drivers to the latest version and now have hit a problem. The windows xp start up screen shows but after that the screen goes blank. I'm sure windows is booting ok but i can't tell because nothing shows on the screen. Is there anyway I can bypass the new driver so I can see whats going on? Would booting into safe mode work? If so, how do I do that? It's a long time since i've run XP so i'm a bit rusty on it.

Many thanks

Safe Mode = Keep bashing F8 during startup

You might be better off using a version of forceware that's a couple of years old, they tend to make modifications that are good for new cards but bad for old cards - usually they break the fans.

Thanks:) I'd forgotten it was F8

I think i've got one lying around somewhere. The driver I updated was from 2007, the new one is the latest of their site. There must be loads of older nvidia cards still going so i'd have thought it would be silly to have a driver that is known to cause issues with older cards.

Ok, i've just tryed a driver from 2007 and the same thing happens with the added affect of the pc rebooting itself randomly. It'll happily boot into safe mode but not normally. I think the graphics card may be a little bit fubared.
